Transferring files from your host computer into the DaDesktop environment

One of the most requested features has finally arrived: the ability to copy files straight from a Trainer's laptop or desktop into the DaDesktop environment. These could be presentation decks, ISO files for use in a nested virtualisation setup to power multiple servers and desktops, or simply any supporting documents needed for a specific training session.

We've rolled out a simple drag-and-drop file transfer function in the latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates. Now you can grab files from your own device—laptop or desktop—and drop them right into the DaDesktop workspace.

At the moment, you can only transfer one file at a time. If you have several to move, just bundle them into a zip archive and drop that across instead. The system splits large transfers into chunks for smooth delivery, so a fast fibre connection will give you the best experience. Folder structures inside archives—like a zip file—are preserved intact.

On Linux templates, we haven't yet added a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder like the one in Windows. Instead, you'll find your transferred files here:

/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
