Possible issues you may encounter
While most applications run seamlessly, a handful might need minor adjustments to function perfectly with DaDesktop
Fresh Start cloning hiccups and how to fix them
The vast majority of apps function without any issues when set up on the Fresh Start machine with DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of them may behave unexpectedly after cloning due to how the process works, requiring just a few extra steps to get back to normal.
- Oracle Database Server - You'll need to update the hostname from the duplicated one to 127.0.0.1
- Hyper-V server - When cloning from the FreshStart machine with the External switch enabled, Hyper-V may run into duplicate MAC address issues.
- Google Chrome - Chrome might fail to launch on cloned machines if the Fresh Start machine wasn't fully shut down before cloning, because the profile remains linked.
- WSL - Windows System for Linux - Our testing revealed that DaDesktop machines with WSL installed aren’t portable—if you move such a machine to another DD server, it won’t boot properly. The exact cause isn’t clear, but it seems Windows assumes certain hardware specifics, and moving to a new server triggers an issue. Since WSL is seldom used in training (most users just run Linux directly), we haven’t dug deeper into this yet.
- Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - This happens when a trial licence is bound to a MAC address—after cloning, the licence appears already used, rendering it invalid.

For any software that needs a licence, it’s often best to install it after cloning the Fresh Start machine.
Additional glitches you might encounter with DaDesktop

Very slow Virtualbox seen when using Hyper-V and VirtualBox (This can happen outside of DaDesktop as well)
Problem: VirtualBox runs painfully slow on Windows, making it nearly impossible to run a training course—but the fix is straightforward:
Solution 1: Uninstall Hyper-V Virtualisation in Windows:https://www.wintips.org/fix-virtualbox-running-very-slow-in-windows-10-11/
Solution 2: Follow the Hyper-V Server workaround mentioned earlier; otherwise, duplicate MAC addresses will cause slow performance, boot issues, and other odd behaviour.
- Unable to type certain characters ie Apostrophes / Quotation Marks, Inverted Commas, when typing inside a DaDesktop machine.
